The norovirus , or as known in the UK ‘the winter vomitting bug’, is the most common cause of viral gastroenteritis in humans and affects people of all ages. The norovirus is trasmitted by fecally contaimined food or water or by person to person contact. This virus causes nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and in some cases, loss of tase. It has also resulted in 1.1 millon hospitalizations and an estimated 218,000 deaths. Its not always possible to avoid catching nororvirus but there are certain ways to prevent it spreading, for example, washing your hands frequently with soap and water, disinfect any surface or object that could be potentially contaminated, wash any items of clothing or bedding, don’t share any towels or flannels and avoid eating any raw, unwashed produce.
